The UAS Honors Program Presents: Translocal Muslim Identities around the World - YES Students in Alaska

As part of the 2013-14 Honors Seminar, "Pacific Peoples: Translocal Identities and Cultural Connections," three students from the YES Program from Juneau and Haines high schools will be delivering presentations.

As part of the 2013-14 Honors Seminar, "Pacific Peoples: Translocal Identities and Cultural Connections," three students from the YES Program from Juneau and Haines high schools will be delivering presentations at the UAS Rec Center on Wednesday, January 22, 6-7 p.m.  A reception will be held prior to the presentations at 5:30 p.m.

While nearly a quarter of the world’s population are Muslim, the percentage living in the United States constitutes less than 1% of our national population (Pew Research Center). In 2003, the Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) program was established to bring youth between the ages of 15 and 17 from countries with significant Muslim populations to study in the United States for an academic year.

The following YES students will speak about themselves, their backgrounds, and their experiences in Alaska:

Màhâ Abdulrâzzàq (Yemen), attending Thunder Mountain High School
Abdulla Husain (Bahrain), attending Juneau-Douglas High School
Haytham Mohanna (Gaza), attending Haines High School
