Juneau, Alaska
Date of Press Release: September 23, 2021
The University of Alaska Southeast (UAS) has been named one of the Hidden Gem Colleges in the Far West US 2022 Rankings by website College Raptor. This is a planning tool that helps prospective students make informed decisions when choosing a school.
To qualify as a Hidden Gem, a college must meet four criteria. They must receive fewer than 5,000 applications per year and have fewer than 7,000 undergraduate students. They must offer five or more unique majors, and have a 10% or higher acceptance rate.
In its listing for UAS, College Raptor notes, “The smallest in the trio of University of Alaska schools, Southeast is located in the state capital. Southeast is further divided into three campuses, Juneau, Sitka, and Ketchikan. Southeast’s mascot is Spike the Humpback Whale. Though Southeast offers up to the master’s degree, 88% of students study at the undergraduate level.”
“The students who study here know what a gem UAS is. We’ve got outstanding faculty, diverse programs, excellent service and support, and you can’t beat our coastal locations. We know there are more students out there who will find UAS as ‘the right fit,’ and we are pleased to be recognized by College Raptor - a great way to expand our reach to students looking for what we have to offer,” said Lori Klein, UAS Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs.
