Pregnancy Accommodations

Overview

Under Title IX and ADA, a student qualifies for accommodations if their educational pursuits are interrupted by medically necessary absences due to pregnancy, childbirth or related medical conditions (miscarriage, false pregnancy, c-section, etc.). A student will need to provide documentation and ongoing engagement with a medical provider until recovered. When a student returns to school, the student will be allowed to return to the same academic and extracurricular status as before their medical leave began.

Nursing Parents on Campus

Students can request flexibility from their faculty to express breast milk and faculty is encouraged to make adjustments for nursing parents. Typically, 15 to 20 minutes three times per day is appropriate, but more time may be needed to travel to the lactation room on campus. The lactation room on the Juneau campus is Egan 110, which is located near the Egan Lecture Hall, Room 112. Accommodations for an alternative space for expressing milk may be requested through the DS Office.
