Course Reserves & Digitization
Allows faculty to designate course reading materials to be held at the library to ensure equitable access by students. Faculty may also use this form for digitization (scanning) requests. Physical reserve materials are held at the Circulation Desk. Digital course reserves (scanned items) will be shared with faculty to post to their course site. Please allow for processing time by bringing in your materials and submitting forms at least one week prior to informing students that they will be available (processing time may be longer for items brought in after semester begins). While the library can support scanning/digitization of course readings our capacity is limited by staffing. Scanning entire books is not ideal and in most cases not possible due to copyright restrictions.
eBooks as Course Texts
Make a purchase request today for digital copies of course texts (ebooks). We will identify and purchase ebook versions of key required texts and supplemental readings when available.
Course sections using library licensed ebooks as course texts may be marked as Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC) sections as long as the print copy is listed as optional rather than required (during the PCO process) and the notes field explains that the ebook is freely available via Egan Library. Adding a Course Link (Blackboard) to the ebook using the permalink is an equitable way to ensure that all students have access to the course materials on the first day of class. Students who prefer a print copy can purchase one but it is not required. The library has provided a sample syllabus statement and other guidance on marking ZTC course sections.
Learn more about Open Education Resources (OER). These are ways to reduce costs for students and increase access to recommended or required readings for a course.
Recognition of your Scholarship
The Authors' Reception
The Egan Library, in cooperation with the Office of Development and Alumni Affairs hosts a yearly celebration to recognize faculty research and creative works of published scholarship. In order to qualify for the reception and be featured in the bibliography, the work must have been published in the calendar year preceding the reception and must meet the guidelines for tenure and promotion in the field of study.
Share and Preserve your Scholarship
Preserve your scholarly work in ScholarWorks@UA.
ScholarWorks@UA is University of Alaska's institutional repository, created to share research and other scholarly work by UA faculty, students, and staff. In it you will discover a growing number of papers, publications, archival collections, dissertations, theses, and more!
Why share my work in a repository?
Adding your work to a digital repository like ScholarWorks@UA helps make sure your work is openly available, accessible, and preserved in a stable place — whether it’s a slide deck, syllabi, article preprint, or related documents.
In a repository, your academic work will generally receive:
- A stable URL, called a handle, which you can share with others or post to social media, your personal website, and more. You won’t have to worry about broken links, or migrating and re-posting your work to a new web page if you move to a new institution.
- Indexing by Google and Google Scholar, which makes your work more discoverable by others around the world.
- Statistics about usage and engagement with your work, including download counts and alternative metrics.
When you move your scholarship out from behind paywalls and preserve it for the future, you may find that your research profile is elevated as your works become more discoverable.
Policy on work in the Institutional Repository (IR)
UAS Collections featured in ScholarWorks@UA are intended to be articles and other works that were completed while at UAS.
Submit your work here to be archived in a UAS ScholarWorks collection, or contact Jennifer Ward with any questions.
